Determinant portfolio: situation as of 01.02.2024

This is a very nice start to 2024 for the determining portfolio. Not only does it outperform the market, but it does it in the manner...

Monthly performance in CHF

In detail, here is the performance of the PF, of each of its strategies and of its benchmark index, the MSCI Switzerland:

Determinant portfolio 2.3%
Quality Value Momentum 8.5%
Blue Chips 0.7%
Trading Auto Signal 3.5%
Tactical Asset Allocation 1.8%
MSCI Switzerland 0.5%

The portfolio achieved a superb overall result, leaving the Swiss market far behind. This is all the more significant as the cash share fluctuated between 8 and 23%. It must be said that, for once, the Swiss franc has finally given up ground, with a drop of 2% against the dollar. In these conditions, obviously, everything becomes easier. We are not going to complain about it, after a year 2023 during which we had to row against the current.

I had felt the blow coming at the beginning of last month and it came true. QVM strategy broke through the ceiling. That's how we like it. She had been through a lot last year too.

There Blue Chips Strategy remained much more discreet, but still did slightly better than the MSCI Switzerland. It has accustomed us to better, but it is always good to take.

THE Trading Auto Signal on the other hand, had a very nice month of January, in only 13 days of exposure.

Finally, the TAA strategy also achieved a nice result, again pushed by cryptos and a little by gold.

I had also announced last month that I was expecting a decrease in volatility portfolio for this year. For the moment in any case, it is materializing, since it displays a volatility worthy of 10-year US government bonds, while the Swiss market has been yo-yoing.

Aided by its lower volatility, the portfolio still displays a much better Sharpe ratio than the market (which measures profitability relative to risks). Thus, at Equal risk, PF still performed better than the market.

Portfolio Update

The determining portfolio will be updated on February 1st, in the members section. Only one change is planned.

Are you still active in the Japanese market? With the Nikkei just breaking its record your business must be going well! I'm happy for you 🙂

        I can't complain 😛
I did sell some tech stocks (NASDAQ) recently though. It's gotten out of hand in my opinion.
My wife and I are thinking about where we want to settle down in the long term with our two children. Switzerland, Germany, Quebec? Hard to say for now, too many variables to take into account, it's complicated, but at least we'll have enough to buy our first house haha I can't wait to be home for real, I'm tired of suitcases 😛

      2. It's true that tech is all the rage right now. The AI frenzy reminds me of the Internet frenzy in 2000. We remember how it ended 🙂
It's not easy to decide where to settle down, because it's for a long time in principle. And no matter how many variables you take into account, in the end there will always be some that you haven't taken into account... and which will make you stay, or leave...

And overall, how do you like life in Switzerland?
Do the Swiss have the same temperament as the Germans? 😛

    1. Oh no, it's not the same temperament as the Germans, even in German-speaking Switzerland. And especially not in French-speaking or Italian-speaking Switzerland. In fact, each of the 26 cantons is very different from each other, it's like a mosaic of states, with different cultures, landscapes and even languages. Life in Switzerland is very pleasant, after that it depends on which region you settle in and you also have to see what you are looking for, and with what means 🙂
