Diary of a future rentier (76)

This post is part 75 of 86 in the series Diary of a future rentier.

I have just completed all the training necessary for my future independent ancillary activity. Now I just need to finalize some logistical and administrative preparations, and then I will be ready to launch. This should be for the first quarter of 2021, if there are no major obstacles.

As I have already specified in my previous posts, I am aiming for this future activity for about ten hours per week. This will allow me to:

  • to secure my income by diversifying its origins
  • to maintain a social connection
  • to remain active, both physically and intellectually
  • all on my terms and at my own pace.

In short, this little occupation will help me cross the final line, the one where I will definitively cut ties with salaried employment.

By maintaining an independent sideline, while living mainly from my investments, I keep the best of both worlds, while reducing their respective risks. Unlike other self-employed people who are starting out, my income is already insured. On the other hand, in the event of a major problem with my investments, I keep a final safety net. It is unlikely that I will have to resort to it, because my wallet is already highly secure and diversified. However, for the head, it is always good to have several arrows in your bow.

Once I have completed the final preparations, I will take on a first client for a few months to see how it goes. If everything is ok, then I will give my very last letter of termination to an employer. Including the work I still have to do, the test phase and my notice period, I should reach my goal by autumn 2021 at the latest. The countdown has begun...

  2. Congratulations on this journey. What is remarkable is that beyond the skills and efforts to carry it out, it also requires a certain amount of courage.
