Wherever you are on the road to financial independenceIt's important to know how to occupy all the available time in an annuitant's life. This is obvious if you're already financially independent, but it's also a good idea to prepare yourself beforehand. No matter how far away the life of an annuitant may seem, a weekly plan of your future life will give you a taste of the dream before the dawn, and thus provide an additional source of motivation.
As I mentioned in my E-BookThe best thing is to start your life as an annuitant today. Even if you've just begun your quest for financial independence, you need to start living like a future annuitant, in your own way. This means not only earning your first income, but also putting yourself in "time for yourself" mode.
The further I go in my quest, the closer I get to my goal, and the more I realize that the hardest part isn't putting money aside and earning dividends. In the end, that's all very easy to learn. No, the hardest part of the story is actually starting to enjoy it.
We must not underestimate the weight of the Rat-Race. This insatiable need to work to satisfy the needs of our consumerist society, this hyperactivity that characterizes the Western world, all has the unfortunate tendency to prevent us from resting and taking time for ourselves. Time value has become a much more precious and scarce commodity than money value.
So you have to do violence to yourself and fight against the outside world to literally steal back time it has taken from us. And that's probably the hardest thing to do, because it depends on our behavior, our awareness of it, and on others. It's a lot more complicated than placing an order on the stock market.
Our good fortune is that time is on our side. Age gradually makes us see things differently. So do the trials of life. Our values change, and with them our behavior, even if unconsciously. In the long run, putting time first is no longer just a concept to be followed, it becomes a need, something that comes from the gut. And then everything becomes simpler.
Whatever the case: the life of a rentier begins today. It doesn't matter whether time value is just a concept or already a need, whether you have time for yourself or not, whether you're already (or partially) financially independent or not.
From now on, we're in the annuity business. A good place to start is to draw up a weekly schedule of our new (and possible future) life as an annuitant.
I had fun making my own, just for fun:
After all, it's not easy to fill all that free time. It's easy to fit in everything you want to do that you can't fully accomplish in your working life. Even so, there's still plenty of free time, which leaves plenty of room for the unexpected! If that's not the good life...
What about you? Have you already made your (future) annuitant plan?
