One day we realize that it is completely futile to spend a large part of our time working, with the sole aim of feeding ourselves and buying goods that Consumer society pushes us to buy. This is the first step on the long road to financial independence, the one where we open our eyes.
While this step is necessary, it can unfortunately also lead us to make bad decisions. By realizing the dark side of work and consumption at all costs, we risk going into hibernation mode, where we live almost only to free ourselves from capitalist society.
The trap is then to make big plans on the comet, to put oneself in future rentier mode, with the consequence of no longer really living for oneself today. While in the rat race you lived for the consumer society, in hibernation mode you live for a hypothetical future ego, which may never see the light of day.
Savings are made on the back of the needs of self-realization. Worse, while it was precisely one of the sources of dissatisfaction, working time increases in order to achieve the goals of financial independence as quickly as possible.
This path is unfortunately doomed to failure. It is the surest way to get tired along the way, or even to get tired to the point where we will have only worsened the situation that made us choose financial independence in the first place.
The best choice, once you realize the futility of the rat race, is to start living like a rat right away. future rentier. Of course, you have to save a little and continue working, but you also have to start enjoying this new life, even if in the very beginning, this is still just a state of mind.
This is the surest way to achieve your goals.

I totally agree with this warning. Financial independence takes preparation… (but not too much, because otherwise you never leave your company). It is a subtle mix of preparation and anticipation, and a confidence in yourself and in the future that removes the barriers to taking the plunge.
For my part, I have already been living like a "future rentier" for 2 years: I quit my job and live my dreams by traveling (cafeduvoyage.com). My message to the reader would therefore be this: the good life is accessible! Persevere and train yourself, these are two very important pillars.
