May is still wonderful. The air is temperate, not too cold, not too hot, we can go out again without being covered in everything. The girls finally show off their assets for our greatest pleasure. We are woken up by daylight and birdsong rather than by an uninspiring beep-beep. Winter, its freezing temperatures and depressing darkness are far behind. And the next one is not ready to show the tip of its nose. I really love May.
Honestly, wouldn't you like to live permanently during the month of May? I can already see some of you telling me that what's beautiful is precisely this alternation of seasons, going from cold to hot, then from hot to cold, from night to light and vice versa. Yeah, okay, if you want. But personally I'm happy to do without this alternation. If you offer me a permanent ticket for the month of May, I'll buy it right away.
Okay, now you're going to tell me that it's not possible. May is May, it lasts 31 days, and then that's it. There's still summer, it's cool, even if sometimes a little hot and the days are already getting shorter. And then after that it's already autumn, the air is getting cooler, the leaves are falling, getting up is getting harder and harder and it gets dark earlier and earlier. We won't even talk about the rest. Anyway, May is 31 beautiful days and then it's over.
Although. Imagine... Like birds, we could fly to warmer skies whenever necessary. Maybe we could live in places where it's 22°C all year round and where the length of the days hardly varies from one season to another. Am I dreaming? Really? Not so sure...
Let's go a little south and see what happens:
Cape Verde:
- Annual temperatures between 21°C and 27°C
- 6.5 days of precipitation per year
- Length of day over the year between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Gran Canaria:
- Annual temperatures between 18°C and 24°C
- 22.5 days of precipitation per year
- Length of day over the year between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
For comparison, Geneva:
- Annual temperatures between 6°C and 15°C
- 109.5 days of precipitation per year
- Length of day over the year between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Apart from the tourist spots, many of these places are located in areas where the cost of living is much lower than in our regions, and this is even more true if you live in Switzerland. So, if you are lucky enough to be a rentier, or when you are lucky enough to be, why not take advantage of it to have a good time there? This could be done all year round, or at least during the rotten months of the year, like migratory birds... just to live in May all year round.
If you look around, you can find lots of little corners of paradise on the planet with not too much seasonal variation in weather conditions and day/night duration. Below are some links to use. If you find others, feel free to share them...

For me, May is the worst month of this year. By the way, I am a beginner in trading. Always in contact with the stock market since 2012 but I experienced my first ruin this month. I think I will stop a little to take a step back. I do not know what to do yet but I find that it is the ideal time to take a vacation.
as they say: sell in may and go away…
Hello Jerome,
Thank you for this article.
Being a rentier brings many advantages compared to an average person, employed in a company. It is also this notion of freedom that pushes me to want to become a rentier as quickly as possible!
