Performance 2013

Performance

There performance in CHF from portfolio is excellent in 2013 with +26.65%. While it has a rather defensive vocation, the portfolio even allows itself the luxury of beating the market in the middle of an upward trend (the SPI is 24.6% during the same period). This excellent performance comes mainly from the first half, with an indecent profitability of +20.43%. Cumulatively, this brings us to an annual profitability since launch (03.02.2010) of +11.41%. Dividend growth partly explains these results. This amounts to 9.75% per year. Despite this, the distribution ratio The average portfolio remains particularly cautious, with less than 40%. This still leaves a lot of room for growth for future dividends.

In 2013, CHF 2,746 in net dividends were generated by the portfolio, compared to CHF 2,382 in 2012. I am thus progressing slowly but surely towards my goal of financial independence, and am now 7% away from this goal. I had expected to reach around 10% by the end of 2013, but this was not possible due to the market level. I have cash that is waiting to be invested to provide me with dividends, but I do not want to invest it all at once, given the current price level.

The markets have been breaking record after record for several semesters. While such performance is to be welcomed, there is a price to pay: opportunities for quality dividend-paying stocks at good prices are becoming increasingly rare. What's more, the market has just moved into the highly overvalued area according to the TMC/GDP ratio, and that's never a very good sign... I've been saying for quite some time that there's going to be a correction and it's true that it's slow in coming. I don't know if it will be in a week, a month, a quarter, a semester or more, but a market decline is going to happen. It's even necessary.
