      Good morning,

I have a question regarding the W8-BEN form and Interactive Brokers. I believe another reader mentioned this.
If I understand correctly, it allows you to “win” 15% of the 30% of tax withholding in the USA.
I couldn't find it to know if it is already filled correctly or not. Do you have the path to find it?
One more question, do I have to submit it to the tax office with my return or is this unnecessary and transparent?

      Thank you for your enlightenment,
      Xavier

Normally you fill it out online when you open the account (and they ask you to update it fairly regularly if I remember correctly).

So you are only taxed at 15% on dividends.

I never submitted it to the Swiss tax authorities. I don't see why I should do it anyway. They only want to tax you on the remaining dividends (after deducting the US 15%).

          Thanks, that's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.
Unless I am mistaken, this comes when selecting geographic areas.
