It is hard to ignore the Swiss vote on curbing mass immigration... it is all the media is talking about now. I ask my many French readers, if you had had the choice, would you have voted in favor of this initiative to establish immigration quotas?
February 13, 2014 at 20:43 #16959It seems obvious to me that given the dramatic unemployment and the importance of taxes to pay for social protection, a French vote in favour of immigration quotas would have been largely imposed, and not only with 50.5%.
But should we ask the people for their opinion, especially in times of crisis? I'm not at all sure...
February 15, 2014 at 10:12 #16960I would like to point out that I will not have voted for it, since you asked the question directly. But if we can say that voting for it is a vote of fear and ignorance, we can also say that complete deregulation, without informing the population about the consequences and without real analysis of what exists, reveals a weakness in the actions of those in power.
February 15, 2014 at 4:09 p.m. #16961Yes, without information and without taking into account the legitimate concerns of the people. I voted against the initiative but I can understand the arguments of those who voted for it. The subject is much more complex than it seems. Wanting to make those who voted for the initiative limiting immigration appear to be morons, backward, fearful or otherwise is a serious mistake. People voted with full knowledge of the facts. Switzerland has a long tradition of direct democracy and it is not as if they are being asked the question for the first time… people do not vote simply because they are being facilitated or by letting themselves be guided by emotions. The proof is that the Swiss refused a sixth week of compulsory vacation…
An interesting little survey:
February 15, 2014 at 5:49 p.m. #16962I notice that the tendency is to ask the opinion of the population while denigrating its capacity to respond ,,,, in short a certain category of the population considers itself as having a superior capacity for judgment compared to the rest of the population ,,,
It would seem, however, that a democracy is defined by the acceptance of the individual to decide for/by himself,
For my part, I had submitted an immigration file (finally accepted) for Quebec a little over ten years ago: I can tell you that if you do not have: good health, the right age, the right profession, the right wallet, the right diploma, etc. you will not set foot there,,,,,
In short, there are borders or there aren't, if there are, it can be managed like the rest, if we are capable of it...
the influx of population allows to put pressure on wages ,,,,,,,
In the general media, there is a word that comes up more and more: corruption... the only remedy will be the rise of
French Treasury borrowing rates on the markets, there they will be forced to launch a cleaning operation (Marc Faber spoke about it some time ago,,,,,,,)
