Didn't choose the right career?

Didn't choose the right career?Have you ever wondered if you chose the right career? The more I go on, the more I think that I made a mistake. To tell the truth, I was never even sure of my choice. Even when I was at school, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do, and today, 30 years later, I am hardly any further ahead.

There are a few rare people who have a vocation. They know almost since their earliest childhood what they are going to do. But, frankly, are you sure of your move? Not me. Or rather yes. I am sure that I have not chosen the right profession.

But there would still have to be a good one. I have reviewed the list of different professions that could more or less suit me, but not a single one triggers a hint of enthusiasm in me.

Journalist, financial advisor, consultant... even jobs that touch on the fields I like don't excite me. Why?

Simply because they imply the notion of a job subject to the orders of a boss or the demands of a client. In short, they make you addicted. By my personality INTJ, I am of a strongly independent nature. I have a lot of trouble putting up with being at the mercy of others. And it is therefore difficult, if not impossible, for me to be able to fully flourish in an activity as an ordinary employee.

Of course, I don't only have bad times at work. I would even say that there are days when I go there almost without having to force myself. But still, it's not my thing. It's not what makes me tick, what I want to fully invest myself in.

From here, there are no 36 solutions. Other jobs would only repeat the same problem. The only alternative is to create the conditions that allow me to live in complete independence. And there is only one profession that allows access to this: that of rentier.

And you, do you think you have chosen the right career?

  1. Hello Jerome,

Having the same INTJ profile, I completely understand the problem.

After having changed several times (companies and positions), it is neither the position nor the environment but the professional employer-employee relationship that is the most annoying for me.
Not in the direct and current relationship (exchange of information, monitoring of directives, deadlines, volume of work, etc.) and the skills required, but the problem of being independent in character and spirit which, in the long run, can deteriorate this internal professional relationship.

I know that changing only postpones the problem, but it allows you to get some air in the early days... And above all, I don't like doing the same thing for too long, stagnating and not learning anything anymore.

So to be able to achieve this financial independence, therefore freedom, independence of life, I will need about 15 more years, making sure to shorten this waiting time as much as possible!

Looking forward to hearing from you

    Caroline

    1. Hello Caroline
Thanks for your comment. It's always nice to see that we're not alone in the world 🙂
Courage 15 years is long and short at the same time. And the journey is worth it.
